Canst thou flyte?
Recently I posted on Reddit in an RPG developer forum about alternative forms of battles for people who want a richer game world than just hack-and-slash combat. My comment was that rap battles are an excellent example of this, which got a lot of upvotes and encouragement to make such a game.
Rap battles were outside my forte, but in thinking about alternates the idea of medieval insult battles came up. A Godot game jam had just started, so I began designing and coding and digging in to learn Godot. Then, when searching the internets for a good name for the game, I discovered that medieval insult battles were indeed a thing -- and it was called flyting.
The rest sort of fell into place after that.
Development got held up for 2 days while I learned the intricacies of the Godot engine (specifically, how to debug and pass variables properly), then the last 48 hours have been a blur of crunch to get the core game built into a releasable version.
Lots more work that can be done here -- I had envisioned a more robust battle tour and tournaments, not to mention drilling deeper into different fantasy races and bonuses/buffs based on insults used -- but pleased with the core game as it is. Good enough to ship.
Leave feedback anytime.
Hope thou enjoyest.
