How to use the app

The vt was designed to help you discover & spend time getting to know talented underground indie artists. We feature one album at a time from a wide variety of genres.

The app is regularly updated with new album features. New features are chosen by our member community (apply here: https://www.thevt.co/pages/application.html).

To help us figure out who our new features will be, we have a cover contest that is open to artists around the world (and across the universe).

HOW TO SUBMIT A COVER SONG:

1. Listen to our current featured album.

2. Find a song that you find interesting or inspires you.

3. In the main menu, click on the "covers" option.

4. A record button will appear on the screen. Click it to begin recording directly from your computer's microphone. There is a 4 minute maximum recording time length for covers.

5. Once you've finished recording and moved to the next step, the vt will prompt you to enter the details of who recorded the cover. Fill in the details for EACH performer of the cover you just recorded (if it's just one performer in the recording, just list that performer).

6. If the performer is signed to a record label, performance rights organization or any other business entity (including managers) who might own a portion of your ongoing recorded works, be sure to list them as well.

7. Once the data is complete, submit the whole thing.

Et voila! The cover has been uploaded and submitted to our backend for listening by our members.

IMPORTANT: If there is more than one performer and/or the performers need to be cleared by their record label, performance rights organization, etc, fill out any verification information (check your emails for details). Covers that have not been verified by all the artists involved, or that may have conflicts with music industry organizations, won't be available for listening and voting by our members.

WHY IS THERE SOMETIMES A BOMB GRAPHIC? WHAT DOES IT DO?

The main UI of the vt is designed for short, fun moments. Instead of endless doom scrolling and a barrage of content, the vt's core experience is based on brief, 15-second moments of interest or engagement. We call them "flips". Every 15 seconds you get a new one. Sometimes there's interesting news items, other times psychedelic swirls you can manipulate, still other times there are clouds you can increase or decrease the spin of.

The bomb graphic is like a countdown timer. Most of the time it's hidden, but you can make it appear by closing the main menu. It will also appear anytime the artist / track / album information appears in the lower-left corner of the screen. When the bomb goes off, a new flip is delivered.

Future versions of the vt will develop the flips more to increase interest and engagement for a more playful experience.

ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW?

Nearly every flip can be engaged with, especially the more visual ones. There are up and down arrow controls hidden in the main screen, and for some flips just touching the screen itself will have an effect.
